General Steel Stockholding

We stock in excess of 3,000 tonnes of general steels at Northampton including Heavy Sections, RHS, Merchant Bar, Bright Steels, Sheet, Plate and Weldmesh. We also stock Handrailing and Walkway products.

The ERW Tube Specialists

We commissioned a large extension to the Northampton site in 2004 to accommodate the specialist ERW Tube business of Star Tubes in Milton Keynes. We dropped the trading name of Star Tubes in September 2007 but the profile of being ERW Tube specialists remains. We stock in excess of 1,000 tonnes and over 500 sizes of ERW at Northampton.

In House Processing

We have 5 automatic tube processing saws at Northampton each with on line de-burrers. We can also rumble de-burr small cut lengths.

Our 5 large fully automatic band saws can bundle or single cut steel sections quickly and very accurately.

Service

We operate our own fleet of LGV vehicles and deliver daily from stock within a 60 mile radius of Northampton. We offer a scheduled delivery service to locations outside of this area. We pride ourselves in the quality of our operations at Northampton and on the reliability of our delivery service.

The Barrett Group

The service levels provided from our Northampton site are enhanced by being part of the Barrett Group of companies which is one of the largest independent steel stockholding groups in the country.

The group consists of over 25 general steel depots along with specialist sites for Tubes, Precision Tubes, Engineering Bar and Profiling holding in excess of 80,000 tonnes of stock. With all of our sites having cutting capability and seven of them housing shotblasting and priming plant the Barrett Group offers large stocks and high levels of service across the country.

Based in Scunthorpe our importing division stock over 20,000 tonnes of structural steel. Our newly commissioned facility in Scunthorpe specialises in cutting, drilling, shotblasting and priming structural sections and represents a £6 million investment in some of the most technologically advanced machinery available today.

Further investment has also taken place within our Tubes Division where we have added a Jumbo Laser Tube cutting machine, which is the largest one in the country and can process tubes up to 20" in diameter - Hollow Sections 400 x 400 & 500 x 300 in thicknesses up to 16mm, with a maximum input length of 18m and finished lengths of 15m, to the existing three laser tube machines already in place.
